Munsaem Language Learning · Official guide

Korean, English and Japanese,
one small step at a time

Listen, read, write and speak your way into a new language. Munsaem Language Learning now brings Korean, English and Japanese together in one app. Japanese learning joins the existing Korean and English activities. Whether you are starting from the very first letter or brushing up the basics, you can repeat every activity at your own pace.

Pick the language you want to study, and read the menus in the language you are most comfortable with. Right now you can study Korean, English and Japanese, while the menus and guidance are available in six screen languages.

Free to use with ads · An internet connection may be required for app verification, content and voice model downloads, and ads.

What you can learn

Korean · from the shape of a letter to a whole story

These activities are for people who are meeting Korean for the first time, or who want to practise the basics again. Learn how each letter looks, grow into words and sentences, then meet them again in stories and games.

  • Writing by hand – trace numbers, consonants, vowels and words, and connect sound to shape with dictation.
  • Words with pictures – browse word cards by theme such as animals, food, objects and vehicles, and collect the ones you want to review in your own word list.
  • Understanding sentences – fill in the blanks, practise spacing, and read short stories. In supported activities you can also practise reading aloud.
  • Learning through play – word matching, Golden Bell, crossword quizzes and word chain. Enjoy songs and stories, and look back on your practice in the learning report.

English · from the alphabet to sentences and stories

Switch the learning language to English and a set of English basics opens up. Learn letters and words, connect them into sentences, then practise again through stories and games.

  • Writing – trace numbers and uppercase and lowercase letters to learn their shapes.
  • Vocabulary – repeat words with word cards and your own word list.
  • Sentences – fill in the blanks, arrange word order, and read short stories.
  • Games and songs – word matching, Golden Bell, crossword, word chain and Word Beat.

Japanese · from hiragana to words and stories

Japanese learning is now available. Select 日本語 as your learning language to start with kana and build up to words, sentences and stories.

  • Writing – choose numbers, hiragana or katakana and follow the stroke order to practise each shape.
  • Vocabulary – explore picture flashcards with Japanese spelling, readings and meanings, and listen to the words.
  • Sentences and stories – fill in blanks, practise particles and read stories to meet words in context.
  • Games and songs – practise with picture–word matching, Golden Bell, crossword quizzes and word chain, and enjoy Japanese learning songs.

Learning language and screen language

The learning language decides which content you study. The screen language decides which language the menus and guidance are written in. They are two separate settings, so you can read Korean guidance while studying English or Japanese, or read English guidance while studying Korean.

Learning languages available now: Korean, English, Japanese.
Screen languages: Korean, English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Thai.

Our long term goal is to offer learning content for all six languages. We are improving Korean, English and Japanese learning and plan to expand to Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai. We will announce new learning languages on the update page as they become ready.

Getting started

Is it free?

The app is free to download and includes ads. Please check each store for the latest terms and installation details.

Do I need an internet connection?

An internet connection may be required for the initial app check, for downloading content and voice models, and for ads. Once valid security information and the files you need are stored on your device, some features also work offline. What is available offline depends on what your device has already stored.

How do speaking and pronunciation practice work?

Activities that use the microphone need microphone and speech recognition permission on your device. Find a quiet place and speak clearly, following the on-screen guidance. Speaking practice is offered when on-device speech recognition is available, and support varies by device and language settings.

How do I get in touch or report a problem?

Please write to munsaem@naver.com with your app version, device type and the screen where the problem happened. A screenshot helps a lot.

Privacy details are available in the official privacy policy.
